The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) was a hugely innovative 16-bit console for its time. It was first released in Japan in November 1990 for ¥25,000, followed by North America in 1991 at $199.99, and Europe in April 1992. The console sold approximately 49.1 million units, making it one of the best-selling consoles of all time.
The SNES ran on a 16-bit CPU at 3.58 MHz, supported by a custom 2D graphics PPU, and featured 128 KB of RAM (64 KB system + 64 KB video).
